Laos Coach Protests Indonesian Referee in AFF U-23 Cup
Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

The coach of the Laos U-23 national team, Michael Weiss, complained about the controversial decision of the Indonesian referee in the semifinal match AFF U-23 Cup 2022, Thursday (24/2).

Weiss called Yudi Nurcahya who led the match a problematic referee.

“I don’t understand why the referee made such a decision. The situation where a Thai player fell in the penalty area at the start of the second half was insensitive, it was definitely not a foul by the Lao defender,” Weiss said. Zing.

“The Thai player immediately ran towards the goal. The Thai player then fell, completely without any impact from the Lao defender. The referee was really in trouble,” Weiss added.

In the match between Thailand vs Laos, Indonesian referee Yudi Nurcahya was in the spotlight. This is inseparable from Yudi’s decision to give a penalty in the 51st minute which made Thailand score a goal to change the score to 2-0.

In addition, Yudi also refused to give a penalty to Laos a few minutes later.

Weiss also admitted that he did not want to find excuses for the 0-2 defeat to Thailand. He considered Thailand deserved to come out as the winner because of the superior quality of the game, in addition to being assisted by the element of luck.

According to Weiss, had the penalty not been awarded for Thailand then Laos would have had a chance to get a 1-1 result in 90 minutes.

“The goalkeeper’s mistakes and the referee’s decisions are two gifts for Thailand. The Covid-19 case has also prevented Laos U-23 from getting the services of some good players. Anyway, congratulations to Thailand. Wish them luck in the final,” Weiss said.
