If anyone talks about a global superstar in the world of sports, one of the names that comes to mind is LeBron James. During his 4 seasons with the Lakers, the “King” was the leader of the franchise and even helped give the Lakers their 17th NBA title. In fact, fans saw a big possibility of winning the 18th title this season when Russell Westbrook became a Laker. With LeBron and Anthony Davis, the Lakers had high expectations.

However, the story has nowhere been close to expectations this season. Although the Lakers won their last game, they are below the .500 mark. Also, AD’s recent ankle injury is an added concern. During the season, many pointed to Russell Westbrook as one of the reasons for the Lakers’ poor run.

It was therefore expected that Russ would part ways with the Lakers at the trade deadline. However, this did not happen. Now, a new report has emerged that indicates Russ will join the Knicks next season in exchange for an NBA veteran.
Will Russell Westbrook part ways with LeBron James?
A new trade rumor has emerged that Russell Westbrook could part ways with LeBron and take his talents to New York. In exchange, the Lakers would get former MVP Derrick Rose. In most cases, LeBron and Rose have always gone against each other. A recent fierce battle between the two would come down in the 2015 playoffs. Although the Cavs won the series in 6 games, Rose hit a great buzzer-beater in one of the games.
Since then, Rose has been on different teams and even featured in a Cavs uniform alongside LeBron James. However, he now finds himself as part of the New York Knicks with a valuable role off the bench.
If a Russ-Rose trade were to occur, the Knicks would also have to give up additional plays. According to the ESPN trade machine, a possible trade would include the Knicks receiving Westbrook in exchange for Rose, Burks, Barrett and Noel.

Compared to Rose, Russ is a much better scorer, rebounder and passer. In fact, he has the most triple-doubles in NBA history. So it would seem like the Lakers would take a bit of a hard time in all of those departments. However, Rose brings caution to the table. Unlike Westbrook, Rose averages less turnover. Additionally, Rose is a better shooter from beyond the arc and the free throw line.
On top of that, if the Lakers were to actually get some extra pieces like RJ Barrett, they could get a boost on the end of the score. This trade therefore seems lucrative for the Lakers. Anyway, this situation is only possible next season. Either way, it’s now or never for the Lakers. As LeBron ages, Russ will have to provide the help needed for the Lakers to win.
