Liepāja on Fire, Prizma Powerhouse: an OHL Exclusive Interview with coach JurisAmantovs

Welcome back, hockey fans! Today, we’re diving deep into the surging waters of the Optibet Hockey League (OHL) with a firsthand perspective. Joining me is the insightful and experienced Coach Juris Amantovs, a veteran of Latvian hockey who’s seen it all. Coach, thanks for joining us!

Juris: It’s my pleasure to be here. Always happy to talk Latvian hockey.

Me: Well, there’s plenty to talk about this season. Liepāja is on a tear, crushing HS Riga for the second game in a row! Six goals – that’s extraordinary. What are yoru thoughts on their recent performance?

Juris: Liepāja is playing some smart, disciplined hockey. They’re capitalizing on opportunities, and their offensive firepower is undeniable.Jarovinsky is having a fantastic season, and the combination of Selutin and Naryayev is proving deadly. They’re definitely a team to watch out for.

Me: Absolutely. But on the other end of the spectrum, we saw Prizma dismantle Daugavpils Dinaburga 11-4. That’s a brutal scoreline. Is this a sign of Prizma truly hitting their stride?

Juris: Prizma is a team with immense potential, but they haven’t always been consistent. This game against Dinaburga showed their offensive power at its peak.Vorožcovs’s hat-trick is a testament to their attacking prowess. However, they need to prove they can maintain this level of intensity throughout the season.

Me: Agreed. Consistency is key, and the playoffs are just around the corner! Speaking of the playoffs, Mogo/LSPA still holds the top spot with Zemgale/LLU close behind. Do you think they’ll be the favorites heading into the postseason?

Juris: It’s a tough call. Mogo/LSPA has been a model of consistency all year, but Zemgale/LLU is hot on their heels. They’ve got a potent offense, and their experiance from last year’s regular season dominance will be a valuable asset. It’s shaping up to be a thrilling playoff race.

Me: We can’t forget about defending champions olimp/Venta 2002! They’re still in the top four and have that championship pedigree. Could they pull off back-to-back titles?

Juris: Olimp/Venta 2002 is a well-coached team with a knack for rising to the occasion. You can never count them out, especially in the playoffs. Don’t be surprised if they make a deep run.

Me: Coach, looking at the broader picture, with this being the 90th anniversary of Latvian hockey, what excites you most about the future of the sport in Latvia?

Juris: the passion for hockey in Latvia is truly inspiring. You see it in the involvement of the communities, the dedication of the young players, and the competitiveness of the league. The OHL is getting stronger every year, showcasing homegrown talent and attracting skilled players from abroad. The future of Latvian hockey is luminous.
