Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola feels his team’s position at the top of the Premier League table is currently not safe. Liverpool is still lurking and getting closer.
Man City so far lead with 60 points from 24 matches, 9 points ahead of Liverpool who have only played 23 times. That means, there is a chance that the points gap can be cut by Liverpool if they have undergone the same number of matches.
This is what makes Guardiola remain vigilant. Mathematically, Man City is only safe if it can reach a minimum of 96 points. That is the maximum number that Liverpool can achieve this season with the remaining games.
“The distance with Liverpool means nothing. We still have to win a lot of games, more than 90 points, around 95-96 points if we want to win the league. I am sure of that,” said Guardiola, quoted by the Daily Mail.
“We’ve been outstanding so far, winning 13 of the last 14 games. And our opponent, Liverpool, is getting close. That’s how difficult the situation is.”
“The players have shown that they are not afraid to face every game with full of optimism, but they are aware that we can lose and drop points,” said Guardiola.
Man City will face Norwich City on Sunday (13/2) at 00.30 WIB, while Liverpool will face Burnley on the same day at 21.00 WIB.
