Maria Sakkari and Anett Kontaveit qualified for the Saint Petersburg Open final

The poster for the Saint Petersburg Open final is known. It will oppose the Greek Maria Sakkari, seeded n°1, to the Estonian Anett Kontaveit, seeded n°2. This dream poster for the organizers took time to take shape because of the resistance of Irina-Camelia Begu (56th) against Sakkari.

This first semi-final lasted 3h05 (6-4, 6-7 [4], 6-4) and Sakkari had to give her best to get out of it. She was thus led 2-0 in a last round where the waitresses were not at the party (7 breaks in this single set).

The second half was less contested between Anett Kontaveit and Jelena Ostapenko (6-3, 6-4). It remains to be seen if Sakkari will have recovered from his efforts when challenging an opponent who regularly holds his head (6-6 in their face-offs and Kontaveit’s victory in their last showdown).
