The los Angeles Dodgers continue to bolster their farm system, adding another promising prospect to their ranks. Seventeen-year-old Agustín Acosta Villegas, a native of culiacán, Sinaloa, has officially signed with the institution, embarking on his journey towards Major League Baseball. Acosta will begin his progress at the Dodgers’ academy in the Dominican Republic.

News of the signing was shared by the College of Bachelors of the State of Sinaloa (Cobaes), where Acosta is currently a sixth-semester high school student. The talented outfielder, who throws right-handed adn bats left-handed, caught the eye of Dodgers scout Carlos Gonzalez during the “Elite Prospects” showcase held in Playa del Carmen, Campeche, in May 2021.

This prestigious event brought together approximately 70 promising young players from Venezuela,the Dominican Republic,Curaçao,and mexico. Acosta participated alongside Charles Perez, a Venezuelan coach from the CBC Elite Academy in the United States.

AcostaS passion for baseball ignited at a young age,thanks to the influence of his grandfather. At just three years old, his grandfather introduced him to the world of baseball through the Colhuacan Little Baseball Youth and Children’s League. With unwavering support from his parents, Acosta later joined Campus 27 of Cobaes, where he met Professor Olegario Camacho Parra, a pivotal figure in his athletic development.

Acosta joins right-handed pitcher Edgar Aviles as one of the latest prospects signed by the Dodgers during the MLB International Signing period, which commenced on January 15th. This signing period is crucial for MLB teams to acquire young talent from around the globe, with many of these prospects eventually making their way to the major leagues.
