Minister hails Obiori for winning Pan-African badminton championships

Youth and Sports Development Minister Sunday Dare has congratulated Nigerian Anluwabu Obiori on his win at the Pan African Individual Badminton Championships in Kampala, Uganda.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that Obiori on Sunday beat fellow Ugandan Brian Kasiri in straight sets, winning 21-14, 23-21 in a thrilling final.

The Nigerian previously defeated Algerian champion Adel Hamek in 2017 in straight sets in the semi-finals.

In a statement by his special multimedia assistant, Tween Ibetoi, the minister praised Oburi for being proud of the nation and for showing the Nigerian spirit in the tournament.

NAN reported that Opeyori, without a coach or any accompanying officials, on Sunday in Kampala won an unexpected gold medal at the African badminton singles championships.

It was Oburi’s second gold medal in this event after winning the 2019 title after beating compatriot Godwin Olofoa in this final.
