MLB The Show 22 Swings for the Fences on nintendo Switch, But Will It Be a Home Run?
The gaming world was abuzz last month when the highly anticipated MLB The Show 22 was announced. While many expected to see Shohei Ohtani gracing the cover, the spotlight rather shone brightly on a groundbreaking growth: the franchise’s debut on the Nintendo Switch. Now, with technical tests complete, San Diego Studios (SDS) has unveiled more details about what Switch players can expect when the game launches on April 22nd.
During a recent developer showcase, SDS emphasized the Switch version, highlighting its features and modes. The technical test build, which arrived two weeks later than planned, provided a glimpse into the game’s progress.SDS communications lead Ramone Russell assured fans that the development team is diligently working to polish the Switch experience.
Performance is a key concern for any port, and SDS has confirmed that MLB The Show 22 on switch will target a smooth 30 frames per second. However, to achieve this, some graphical fidelity will be sacrificed compared to other platforms.
Another notable detail concerns the nintendo Switch’s unique Joy-Con controllers. SDS has confirmed that MLB The Show 22 will not support motion controls, dashing hopes of swinging a virtual bat or pitching with the Joy-Cons.
Despite these limitations, the Switch version promises a comprehensive MLB The Show experience. All major game modes will be included, along with cross-platform and cross-progression features, allowing players to seamlessly continue their progress across different platforms. However, one notable omission is the Stadium Creator mode, which will also be absent from the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions.
With its arrival on the Switch, MLB The Show 22 aims to expand its reach to a new audience. While the technical compromises are understandable given the Switch’s hardware limitations, the question remains: will the Switch version deliver a satisfying baseball experience that captures the essence of the franchise? only time will tell if this swing for the fences results in a home run.
