Warriors forward Draymond Green attended team training on Saturday for the first time since early January. Green was sidelined due to lower back problems, but is now healing enough to take the next step.
“The progress is immense. If you knew how I was seven or eight weeks ago – it’s like day and night. I’m stronger than I’ve ever been in my life,” said Green after training. “I spent six weeks just in the weight room, four or five hours a day.” Now he was doing shooting drills, 5-0 drills, and “many” other things.
Head coach Steve Kerr was also delighted with the return of his leader: “It’s just great to have his energy and voice back in the hall. He looked great physically. It’s a very positive step, let’s see now further.” Green was released for basketball activities at the end of January, but continued to work individually.
During the All-Star Break, he explained that the return could take three to four weeks, now it could be a little faster. His goal is to be able to play in as many regular season games as possible: “If it’s 15 games, it’s fantastic. If it’s 10, that’s how it is. As soon as I have the feeling that I’ll be back before the playoffs since it can be outdoors, that would be great.”
The three-time All-Star and Champion has made 34 appearances this season, averaging 7.9 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.4 assists in 29.9 minutes at 53.7 percent from the field.
