LeBron James has decided to calm speculation about his future, saying he wants to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers for the rest of his career.
The NBA superstar sparked speculation he could leave the Lakers during All-Star Weekend in Cleveland, telling The Athletic website he hoped to end his career playing alongside his up-and-coming son Bronny High School.
“My senior year will be played with my son,” James said. “Wherever Bronny is, that’s where I’ll be.
“I would do whatever it takes to play with my son for a year. It’s not a question of money at that time. »
But speaking after the Lakers lost to the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday, James insisted he had no intention of leaving the 17-time NBA champions.
“It’s a franchise that I see myself being with. I am here. I’m here,” James told reporters.
“I see myself being with purple and gold as long as I can play. »
James has one year left on his contract and will qualify for a two-year extension later this year.
James admitted, however, that he hopes to play long enough to partner with his son in Los Angeles.
“I also have a goal, if it’s possible – I don’t even know if it’s possible – that if I can play with my son, I would love to do that,” James said.
“It’s like the coolest thing that can happen. That doesn’t mean I don’t want to be part of this franchise. »
James joined the Lakers in 2018 and led the franchise to an NBA Finals victory in 2020.
The team has struggled this season and is currently ninth in the Western Conference standings with 27 wins and 32 losses.
