“Never disappeared”? WTA remains concerned about Peng Shuai

The WTA women’s tennis association is by no means reassured by the latest statements by the former double world number one Peng Shuai.

“Where is Peng Shuai?” The WTA and many protesters continue to fight for full enlightenment.

“The recent face-to-face interview does not alleviate our concerns regarding your original social media post of November 2,” WTA Chairman Steve Simon said on Monday.

It’s “always nice to see her, be it in an interview or as a spectator at the Olympic Games,” Simon continued. “Yes, to reiterate our view, Peng Shuai has taken a bold step by going public with allegations that she was sexually abused by a senior member of the Chinese government.”

The WTA again called for an investigation into the allegations – and to be able to meet Peng Shuai “privately”.

Peng speaks of “big misunderstanding”

The German President Thomas Bach of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) met with the Chinese Peng (36) in the Olympic bubble in Beijing on Saturday, whose fall before the Winter Games had caused a stir around the world. In an interview with the French sports daily L’Équipe, Peng explained that she had dinner with Bach.

Her abuse allegations against a high-ranking Chinese politician in a social network, she said, were “a big misunderstanding”. In addition, she had “never disappeared”. The WTA sees it very differently, as it has once again emphasized.
