Len, along with fellow Ukrainian player in the NBA Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk (Toronto Raptors), released a statement ahead of the encounter: “A great tragedy has befallen our beloved homeland of Ukraine.
We fundamentally condemn war. Ukraine is a peaceful and independent country inhabited by people who want to determine their own lives,” the two wrote.
The players’ union of the North American basketball professional league NBPA also said on Thursday: “Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been affected by the recent events in Ukraine – especially with our Ukrainian players Alex Len and Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk and their families during during this difficult time,” the NBPA said.
