olimpia Edges Out Atlético Nacional in Copa Libertadores Thriller
Atlético Nacional suffered a 3-1 defeat against Olimpia de Paraguay in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores Phase II. Despite a valiant effort, the Colombian side couldn’t overcome a late surge from the Paraguayan powerhouse.
The match, played under scorching heat at the Defensores del Chaco stadium, saw Olimpia take an early lead. Alejandro Silva, with a dazzling display of individual skill, weaved past defenders on the right flank before unleashing a powerful shot that left Nacional goalkeeper Kevin mier helpless.
Nacional, initially struggling too find their rhythm, gradually began to assert themselves. A worrying moment arose when Álvaro Angulo suffered an ankle injury and had to be replaced by Danovis Banguero. Despite this setback, Nacional created several promising opportunities.Dorlan pabón orchestrated a beautiful play that culminated in a header by Banguero, which sadly went astray. This result leaves Atlético Nacional with a challenging task in the second leg, scheduled for March 3rd at the Atanasio Girardot stadium in Medellín.to advance to Phase III and face the winner of the Millonarios vs. Fluminense tie, Nacional will need to overturn the deficit and secure a convincing victory on home soil.
