Cairo Hosts World Cup Shooting: Italian Hopes Dashed in Men’s 10m Air Pistol
The second day of the 2022 World Cup shooting competition in Cairo saw intense action in the men’s 10m air pistol qualifying round. While the egyptian range witnessed impressive performances, Italian shooters sadly fell short of securing a spot in tomorrow’s semifinals.
Leading the pack are Russian marksmen Artem Chernousov, who topped the leaderboard with a score of 591/600, and Vadim Mukhametyanov, who secured his place with 584 points. Joining them are Indian shooter Saurabh chaudhary and Turkish competitor İsmail Keleş, both achieving 584. Latvian Emils Vasermanis (583), Germans Michael Schwald and Robin Walter (582 each), and Azerbaijani Ruslan Lunev (582) round out the semifinalists.
Paolo Monna, the top-performing Italian, finished in 13th place with a score of 580/600. Inconsistency in the second and fourth series, both ending with 95/100, hampered his progress. Alessio Torracchi and Luca Tesconi, despite achieving the same score of 577, placed 20th and 23rd respectively.
Making his World Cup debut, young Italian shooter Federico Nilo Maldini participated primarily to gain ranking points. He finished with a virtual 28th place, scoring 576.
The anticipation builds as the semifinals and finals of this prestigious event, which will crown the first champion of 2022, are set to take place tomorrow.

The second day of the 2022 World Cup Shooting competition in Cairo saw some extraordinary performances in the men’s 10m air pistol qualification round, but sadly, the Italian shooters fell short of a place in tomorrow’s semifinals. What are your thoughts on the Italian team’s performance?
Jessica: It’s disappointing to see the Italian team not make the cut for the semifinals. From what I’ve seen of Paolo Monna, Alessio Torracchi, and Luca Tesconi, they are incredibly talented shooters. However, it seems consistency was an issue for them today. Even a slight slip up at the World Cup level can make all the difference.
Moderator: Especially in a discipline as precise as air pistol shooting. Paolo monna, Italy’s top performer, finished 13th, but inconsistency, particularly in the second and fourth series, hampered his progress. Does consistency play a crucial role in securing a top spot in such a competitive event?
Jessica: Absolutely! Shooting at the World Cup level requires unwavering focus and mental fortitude. A single low score can derail your entire performance.Consistency comes from rigorous training, mental strength, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
