The Court of Penalties of the Uruguayan Basketball Federation sanctioned Peñarol with a court closure of four games after the incidents recorded on January 29 during the match against Aguada.
Penarol lost that night 85-83 with Aguada playing at home at Palacio Peñarol in a match corresponding to the 15th date of the Uruguayan League. The water carrier thus cut the aurinegro’s streak of three consecutive wins, including the classic with Nacional on the Unión Atlética court.
But it not all ends there. Once the match is over, the arbitral triplet in which Andrés Bartel, Gastón Rodríguez and Joaquín Silvera performed denounced offensive chants from the Peñarol fans and also insults to the judges.
For that reason, on Wednesday night the four-game ban came out.
This is the second court closing sanction that Peñarol receives since his return to basketball in 2018.
In August 2019, the team received a one-point deduction and the court closure of three games for the spitting of a Peñarol fan on player Joaquín Jones of Larre Borges, in a match played on the field of the Union team in which Larre won 109-101.
That match was played on the same day that some Peñarol supporters violated the security fence set up around the Great Central Park and arrived at the entry point of families of Nacional fans who were going to see the women’s classic of the 2019 Opening Tournament and they attacked them.
That sanction prevented Peñarol from winning El Metro 2019, which remained in the hands of Miramar and forced him to play in the playoffs for the second promotion, where he ended up winning against Cordón.
Now, the aurinegro will not be able to officiate at the Palace against Capitol (this Thursday, at 9:15 p.m.) or against Urupan on the next date. Then he will be a visitor against Olimpia and Olivol Mundial and he will not be able to play at his venue against Defensor Sporting and Biguá either. These matches will be played on the Larre Borges court.
