Pickleball: Santa Marta Embraces the Latest Sports craze
The Santa Marta City Council is dedicated to promoting an active lifestyle for its residents, constantly introducing new and exciting sporting opportunities. Their latest initiative focuses on pickleball, a rapidly growing racket sport that’s taking the world by storm. This dynamic game, blending elements of paddle tennis, tennis, badminton, and ping pong, is accessible to people of all ages and fitness levels.
Pickleball originated in the United States and has quickly gained international popularity. Recognizing its potential, the Department of Sports is hosting an open day on Saturday at the closed fronton, giving Santa marta residents a chance to experience this engaging sport firsthand.
“We’re committed to expanding our sports offerings to reach a wider audience,” explains Silvia González, Councilor for Sports. “Pickleball is a fantastic addition as it’s incredibly easy to learn and can be enjoyed by the whole family. Our goal is to establish Santa Marta as a leading hub for this inclusive and fun sport.”
The open day will be divided into three sessions: 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.,11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Participants can play individually or in pairs, using solid paddles (made of wood or other materials), a perforated plastic ball, and a net.
