One of the best para badminton players in the world in the WH2 category is Peruvian and her name is Pilar Jáuregui, native of Puno, and with enormous expectations for this 2022: in a few days she will travel to Spain to participate in two competitions, with the goal of qualifying for the Parabadminton World Cup next November.
A few days ago I participated in the Opening Championship – first date of the National Badminton Circuit, in Lima, achieving gold medals in singles, men’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles. On February 24, some 15 paraathletes will travel to Spain to compete between March 1 and 13, and thus achieve the greatest number of podiums that will help us quickly qualify for the Para Badminton World Cup”, said Pilar, enthusiastically.
Pilar, an example athlete for thousands of Peruvians, is supported by the company Pluspetrol, which provided her with a modern, much lighter and specialized wheelchair to improve her movements during training and competitions. “It was specially designed for me, considering my physical characteristics. It is much faster, more compact and lighter. Now I have more speed,” she recounted.
The paraathlete remembers that a congenital hip problem caused her discomfort during adolescence, then she used a cane to walk, until she had to use a wheelchair. However, this did not limit her.
The para-athlete will participate in the “Spanish Para Badminton International II 2022 – Level 2”, which will take place in the Spanish city of Vitoria between March 1 and 6, and in the “IBERDROLA Spanish Para Badminton International 2022 – Level 1, which will take place in Cartagena from the 9th to the 13th of the same month.
Para badminton consists of several categories, such as WH1, QH2, SL3, SL4, SU5 and SH6. Pilar Jáuregui belongs to WH2, which includes athletes with limited legs and therefore need technical help, that is, a wheelchair for their training and competitions.
