Eighteen-year-old Enzo Clugery recently achieved a significant milestone in his judo journey, earning his black belt at a tournament in Saint-Grégoire, Ille-et-Vilaine. “It’s incredibly rewarding to achieve this symbolic rank,” Clugery shared.
His path to black belt wasn’t without its challenges. He secured his first victory with an ippon, but a momentary lapse in focus led to a loss in his second match. Undeterred, Clugery rallied and clinched the final victory with another ippon, ultimately securing the 20 points needed for his black belt.
Clugery’s passion for judo stems from his early childhood, inspired by his grandfather who was an avid practitioner. He began training at the age of four at the Epam (Plérinaise school of martial arts) and has been dedicated to the sport ever as.
the pursuit of his black belt intensified in 2018, with focused training alongside his clubmate and fellow black belt, Simon Rebours, beginning in 2019.
Now a black belt holder, Clugery isn’t resting on his laurels. he aspires to achieve his second dan, but first, his focus shifts to academic pursuits. He plans to pursue a degree in cycle mechanics thru a work-study program, a newfound interest sparked during the COVID-19 lockdown.Clugery’s dedication to judo extends beyond his own training. He also serves as a young commissioner at various tournaments, demonstrating his commitment to the sport and its community.

Sarah: Invaluable! Having a training partner like Simon, who achieved the black belt himself, provides Enzo with a valuable sounding board, a source of motivation, and a constant push to improve. They can learn from each other, challenge each other, and grow together.
