Draw with Portuguese flavors for French clubs in the Europa League. Lyon will face FC Porto while Monaco will play against Braga
This Friday in Nyon (Switzerland), Andres Palop was present for the draw for the knockout stages of the Europa League. The former doorman of Seville, triple winner of the competition, offered a draw in Portuguese colors to French clubs.
OL inherited an ogre in European football. The Lyonnais will receive FC Porto, double winner of the Champions League, on their return. The Portuguese lost their star winger Luis Dias in the winter transfer window but remain a big customer, leader of the Liga NOS. It was then difficult for OL to establish themselves as favourites, although they won 5 of their 6 group matches, the best total in the competition.
Clement draw for ASM
AS Monaco meanwhile had a more lenient draw. The Monegasques will challenge SC Braga, current 4th in the Portuguese championship. If they will have to be serious against those who have showered in pain the hopes of the Moldovans of Sheriff Tirraspol, they leave in the skin of the favorites.
FC Barcelona, just winner of their play-off against Naples and big favorite of the competition, will face Galatasaray, in the round of 16 scheduled for Thursday March 10 and 17. Sevilla, hosts of the final on May 18, 2022 at their Ramon-Sanchez-Pizjuan stadium in Sevilla, will challenge West Ham. The quarter draw will take place on March 18.
