More than nine months after his collapse at the European Championship, Christian Eriksen made his competitive comeback. It was a goosebumps moment in the Premier League. Eriksen himself struggled with his feelings.

Dhe Danish international Christian Eriksen expressed his relief at his comeback on the pitch. “I’m a happy man,” said Eriksen after coming on as a substitute in the 52nd minute of Brentford FC’s game against Newcastle United in the Premier League. It was a minor matter that the game was lost 0:2. “Let’s leave the result aside,” said the 30-year-old, “after what I’ve been through, it’s an incredible feeling to be here with my family. I’m just happy that that happened.” Eriksen admitted that he was simply overwhelmed by all the impressions and feelings.

Because his substitution was accompanied by loud cheers and standing ovations, also from the opposing fans. “Everyone is here,” revealed Eriksen, “my family, my parents, my children, my mother-in-law and some doctors who have always helped me. What they went through is worse than what I went through.”

“It was special from day one,” said Eriksen

Eriksen had previously played his last game on June 12, 2021 at the European Championship. During Denmark’s group game against Finland in Copenhagen, he collapsed from cardiac arrest and needed resuscitation. With the defibrillator that was then used on him, he is not allowed to play in the Italian Serie A. Therefore, his contract with Inter Milan was terminated.
