A Football Legend Weighs In: Platini’s Take on Mbappé and Messi
Michel Platini, a name synonymous with French footballing excellence, doesn’t often offer his insights, but when he does, they carry weight. In a recent interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, the former French international and UEFA president shared his thoughts on two of Paris Saint-Germain’s biggest stars: Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi.
Mbappé: The World’s Best?
Unsurprisingly, Platini holds Kylian Mbappé in high regard. The 23-year-old striker, according to Platini, is already the best player on the planet. “He’s incredibly talented, incredibly fast,” Platini stated, “Today, he’s the best.”
As a devoted Juventus supporter, Platini openly dreams of seeing Mbappé don the iconic black and white stripes.”I’d tell the Avvocato (Gianni Agnelli, Juventus’ former president): ‘Sign Mbappé! If you have the funds, of course,'” Platini added, though this dream scenario seems unlikely to materialize.
Messi’s Parisian Adventure: A Missed Possibility?
platini also commented on Lionel Messi’s move to Paris Saint-Germain. In his view, the Argentinian maestro should have remained at FC Barcelona.
platini, who famously stayed loyal to Juventus throughout his career, explained his reasoning: “I decided to stop playing at 32. I could have joined barcelona, Marseille, but I wanted to be associated with the club where I made history (Juventus).”
He continued, “ronaldo was synonymous with Real Madrid, Messi with Barcelona. In his position, I wouldn’t have joined another European club, perhaps opting for a move to the USA or China instead.”
while Platini’s perspective is understandable, Messi’s decision to leave Barcelona was undoubtedly influenced by a complex web of factors, including financial constraints and the club’s desire to rebuild. Ultimately, his arrival in Paris has undoubtedly been a boon for Ligue 1 and its fans. What are your thoughts on Platini’s assessment of mbappé and Messi? Share your opinions in the comments below.
Platini’s Bold Claims: A Legend’s Take on Mbappé and Messi
Michel Platini’s recent interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport has sent ripples through the football world. The legendary French footballer didn’t hold back, making some bold pronouncements about two of the biggest names in the game today: Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi. Today, we’re joined by former Liverpool and england striker, Michael Owen, to discuss Platini’s insightful, and perhaps controversial, commentary.
Michael, thanks for joining us.
Michael Owen: It’s a pleasure to be here. always up for a good football discussion!
Let’s dive right in. Platini declared Kylian Mbappé the best player in the world right now. Do you agree?
Michael Owen: It’s unfeasible to argue with Mbappé’s talent. He’s lightning fast, has amazing skill, and is already a World Cup winner. He’s certainly in the conversation for best in the world, but it’s subjective. There are other players like Erling Haaland making waves too.
Platini even went so far as to say he’d love to see Mbappé at Juventus. Do you think that’s a realistic possibility?
Michael Owen: Realistically, it seems unlikely. Financially, it would be a massive undertaking for Juventus, and mbappé seems very content at PSG. But, as a Juventus fan myself, I can understand Platini’s dream!
Now, let’s talk about Lionel Messi. Platini believes messi should have stayed at Barcelona. What are yoru thoughts on that?
Michael Owen: It’s a tough one. messi’s loyalty to Barcelona was remarkable, but sometimes circumstances change. Financially, Barcelona was in a arduous position, and Messi’s contract demands were simply unsustainable. From messi’s perspective, I think he wanted a new challenge, a new adventure.
Platini was adamant Messi should have only played for Barcelona, much like Ronaldo with Real Madrid. Do you think there’s something to be said for that kind of loyalty in today’s game?
Michael Owen: Football is a business, and players have to make decisions in their best interests. While loyalty is admirable, ultimately players have careers to manage and legacies to build. Sometimes that means moving on.
Platini said he would have retired rather than play for another European club once he left Juventus. Would you have done the same?
Michael Owen: I’ve been lucky to play for some incredible clubs. It’s hard to say what I would have done in that situation. Every footballer’s journey is different.
