Trip to the past! With RB Lukas Klostermann (25) has to play for the first time in the Bundesliga at Bochum youth club on Sunday.
When he changed in 2014, his then coach Peter Neururer (66) grumbled: “I wish Lukas all the best for the future – and a new advisor.” But Klostermann’s change was a direct hit, he became a national player at RB and plays internationally every season.
How does Neururer think about his saying today?
The cult coach remembers the saying very well. What bothered him at the time: Leipzig (only paid a transfer fee of 1 million euros) initially let Klostermann play in the A youth team. Neururer: “But Lukas was actually too good for that. He has already played in the 2nd league with us and should have stayed at least another year. That would have been good for his development and would have brought him forward even faster.”
And further: “Precisely because I never doubted that Lukas would have a career, he would have been better advised to stay with us a little longer.”
With RB he returns at least briefly. And meets his ex-coach with Thomas Reis (48). Klostermann played 15 games (U19, 2nd team) under him, including his first game in the men’s division: in the 2-1 win against Düsseldorf II in March 2014.
Klostermann: “Thomas Reis plays very courageous and passionate football. If you beat Bayern at home, it’s no coincidence. It’s going to be hard work for us.” What does he expect? “Many certainly didn’t expect Bochum to be so high up. But they are right to do so. It will be a game where two confident teams meet.”
