South Tyrol’s Biathlon Stars Shine at Junior World Championships
Teh Junior World Championships in Soldier Hollow, USA, witnessed a remarkable performance from South Tyrol’s biathletes, marked by both triumph and near misses. while rebecca Passler narrowly missed out on her first gold medal, her notable showing solidified her status as a rising star in the sport.Passler dominated the 7.5km sprint, showcasing exceptional accuracy with clean shooting on both occasions.Despite her flawless performance, she was edged out by Tereza Vobornikova by a mere four-tenths of a second. Vobornikova, despite incurring a penalty in the first shooting stage, managed to overtake Passler in a thrilling finish.
This near-miss, however, doesn’t diminish Passler’s achievements. The 20-year-old Antholz native secured her sixth medal at a major championship, demonstrating remarkable consistency at the highest level. With upcoming races, including the pursuit and relay, Passler has the opportunity to equal her record of three medals at a single World Championship, a feat she accomplished in Obertilliach in 2021.
South Tyrol’s success extended beyond Passler. Hannah Auchentaller delivered a commendable performance, finishing in seventh place. A single penalty on the second shooting stage cost her valuable time,leaving her 25 seconds behind the leader. Linda Zingerle, the third South Tyrolean competitor, secured a respectable 19th place, despite incurring two penalties at the shooting range.
Looking ahead, the women’s pursuit over 10 kilometers is scheduled for Saturday, offering another chance for South Tyrol’s athletes to shine. The relay event on March 2nd promises to be another exciting spectacle.
In the men’s race, David Zingerle impressed with an eighth-place finish, showcasing the depth of talent within the south Tyrolean biathlon team.Martin Nevland claimed the gold medal, followed by Otto Invenius and Martin Uldal.

Magdalena Forsberg: Her accuracy is remarkable. She’s a sharp shooter, and that’s basic in biathlon. As she progresses, refining her ski technique and building endurance will be crucial for competing at the highest levels consistently.
