The Finns will attack the fourth Olympic medal, as the third also ended at the premiere of women’s hockey under five circles in 1998 in Nagano and 12 years later in Vancouver.
After the sixth semifinal participation in the seventh performance under five circles, the Finns stepped out after 128 seconds of the game, when Nieminen used the power play. In the 5th minute, Viivi Vainikka increased the lead.
Even in the first period, Akane Šiga reduced, but between the 26th and 29th minute, the Northerners gained a 4: 1 lead to the Northerners and again Nieminen. After 18 seconds of the final act, Nieminen completed the hat-trick and Susanna Tapani and Sanni Hakala increased the result.
During the fifth participation in the Olympics, the Swiss advanced to the top four for the second time, in 2014 in Sochi they reached the bronze medal.
Phoebe Staenzová broke through the no-goal situation with Russia in the 35th minute after Alina Müllerová’s pass, but Anna Savoninová equalized in the second period. In the 48th minute, Dominique Rüegg returned the lead to Switzerland. The Russians again erased the loss in 56:53 thanks to the arrival of Polina Lučniková.
In half a minute, however, Müllerová, who ended up in the right post at the right post, decided after working with Lara Stalder. Two seconds before the end in the weakening and during the power play of Russia, Müllerová sealed the win in the empty goal again, thus scoring the third point.
