Czech Cross-Country Skiers Shine in Lahti Sprint
The Lahti World cup saw impressive performances from Czech cross-country skiers, with all three national team members advancing past the qualification round in the free sprint.
Leading the charge was Petra Janatová, who secured a spot in the semifinals and ultimately finished 11th overall. This marked her best result of the season and her first semifinal appearance, a feat she celebrated, stating, ”I’m thrilled with this outcome. My strategy in the quarterfinals was to stay close to Diggins, known for her strong starts, and it worked perfectly. While the semifinal proved more challenging, I gave it my all.”
Tereza Beranová, the second Czech competitor, narrowly missed advancing from the quarterfinals, finishing in 25th place. Simultaneously occurring, Michal Novák, despite a strong showing in his heat, finishing just behind three-time Olympic champion Alexander Bolshunov, was unable to progress to the semifinals.
The men’s final was a nail-biter,with Johannes Klaebo edging out Lucas chanavat in a photo finish by a mere four hundredths of a second. This victory solidified Klaebo’s dominance, while chanavat’s performance disrupted the Norwegian sweep of the podium.
On the women’s side, Sweden’s Maja Dahlqvist dominated, securing a comfortable victory with a margin of over three seconds.
The Lahti World Cup continues with the 10km and 15km classic technique races scheduled for Sunday.
