Russia will no longer host Euroleague basketball matches

The decision was taken on Friday by the 18 clubs that make up Europe’s major basketball competition, including CSKA Moscow, Zenit Saint Petersburg and Unics Kazan. This choice follows the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The meetings concerned by Russian teams in other countries are, for the moment, maintained. When a match is to take place in Russia, it will be moved to another territory. There are no active Ukrainian teams in the Euroleague. The duel between CSKA Moscow and FC Barcelona this Sunday has been canceled.

“The decision was taken to protect the integrity of the competition, so that teams can continue to defend their right to compete, and the sport can be isolated from political action,” the statement said.

“The Euroleague will continue to monitor the situation, including all regulations imposed by national and international authorities, and will make changes to its decisions if necessary.”
