How do Ukrainians deal with the current tensions with Russia? Yakovenko, ex-Jupiler Pro League striker, based in Kiev, testifies from the country that everyone is watching.

Sacha Iakovenko, Anderlecht footballer between 2008 and 2013, lives in Kiev. He is well placed to feel the atmosphere that reigns there, with regard to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. “Here, the anxiety of the inhabitants begins to rise. Some of the inhabitants of Kiev flee towards Lviv, in the West. But to speak of general panic? It is exaggerated”, confides Yakovenko, currently agent of players. “There are no soldiers or tanks on the streets, shops and restaurants are open, public transport is operating as usual and there is no curfew. There was less traffic in town last week, but that’s because a lot of people are in quarantine because of Covid. Omicron has affected a lot of people, including my parents. In the last few days though, there’s been more traffic, more movements of the population, especially towards the West.
