At the CEPARD facilities and with the presence of local and provincial authorities from the sports and recreation area, from the provincial basketball federation, San Miguel made its official presentation.
On Tuesday, April 8, in the afternoon, the Secretary of Sports of the Municipality of Río Gallegos, Héctor Alderete; the Minister of Social Development, Jorge Ferreyra; the Secretary of State for Sports and Recreation of Santa Cruz, Martín López, as well as the president of the Santa Cruz Basketball Federation, Mauricio Gómez Bull, together with members of the coaching staff and players of the Santo team.
In a brief press conference, which was also attended by local journalists as well as many members of the sports community of Club San Miguel, the protagonists left us their impressions of what the club’s participation in a national level competition implies. The provincial and municipal authorities highlighted the work of the institution to face the competition and promised to be available in whatever they could contribute from the place that touches them, understanding that it will be one more possibility to promote this activity in the province.
For his part, Mauricio Gómez Bull stated: “As president of the Santa Cruz Basketball Federation, I am very happy to be able to count on a representative from the province in a tournament as important as the Federal League. The challenge we have as a Federation and the provincial and municipal governments is to be able to count with the presence of more teams that represent us, not only from Río Gallegos but from the rest of the province”.
Perhaps the most outstanding testimony was that of Roberto Carballo, a member of the technical staff who will participate in the Federal League and founder of the Club back in 2004: “When utopias or big dreams have the possibility of lowering them to goals, although many times they are not achieved, but it is the journey that is made while pursuing them and the goals that are reached that are satisfactory. If when we started with the mini basketball school they told us that 18 years later we were going to be in a national competition, we would not have believed it, but year after year we have fulfilled the tasks step by step. With the support of a good Board of Directors and the commitment of parents and children, of the group of coaches. When the possibility of playing in the Federal League arose, it was the possibility of continuing with our training task and giving our players the opportunity to show them a little about what life is like for professionals. We are very happy to be able to take on this league, believing that we are going to be up to the task with 95% of the players trained at the club”.
San Miguel is already preparing its first triangular debut, which will take place next February 18 and 19, facing the Sports Federation of Comodoro Rivadavia, who will play the local team, and Guillermo Brown of Puerto Madryn.
