The basketball EuroLeague, which has been affected by numerous transfers, has relaxed its protocol for vaccinated players after corona infections.
As the private league announced on Tuesday, it should be possible to return to the pitch after seven instead of 14 days, “provided it is in accordance with the regulations of the local authorities.”
This approach “corresponds to the trend towards reducing quarantine/isolation times that has already been used in several EuroLeague territories,” it said. The current PCR, antibody and other medical tests that must be carried out before a player is allowed to play would still be applied.
The protocol for the return of unvaccinated and non-exempt players remains at 14 days, the EuroLeague said.
Another change to the health protocol is that an unvaccinated player who is unable to attend a match due to local legislation is now “considered available”, according to the EuroLeague.
According to official figures, 93 percent of the players and coaches of the teams in the prestigious competition are currently vaccinated.
Most recently, the German representatives FC Bayern Munich and Alba Berlin were affected by two game transfers. The reason was corona cases in the opposing teams.
