San Salvador. Sport, its rules and its protagonists are deprived of liberty, since in the past 2020 the National Institute of Sports of El Salvador and the General Directorate of Penal Centers joined forces so that the interested inmates dedicated themselves to playing.
Thus, both institutions seek to bring the practice of sport closer to those deprived of liberty, to strengthen them in sport and encourage positive habits.
“Through the order, control and discipline that prevails in penitentiary centers, we have managed to implement sport as a form of adequate rehabilitation in the lives of those who are serving their sentence,” said the General Director of Penitentiary Centers, Osiris Luna.
Staff and technicians from some sports federations visit prisons to carry out a diagnosis that allows continuing with the technical assistance program for the development of sports, recreational and inclusion programs; support training activities for the development of suitable sports inside prisons, as well as provide material for the development of the practice of sports disciplines.
