Sports Trophy 2021: vote for the disabled sportsman of the year in Aude

L’Indépendant organizes the “2021 Sports Trophies” in partnership with the Occitanie Region. The opportunity to highlight the best athletes in the Aude department. Internet users have until March 1 to vote and choose their winner in the six categories. The presentation of the Trophies will take place at the Parc des Expositions in Montpellier on March 23. In the “Handisports” category, here are the three nominated athletes.

Rosa Murcia-Gangloff (running, Béziers)

She has running as therapy. Rosa Murcia-Gangloff, athletics champion who became visually impaired, is a fine example of resilience. In 1994, during the Helsinki marathon, she suffered a retinal detachment: “At the 30th km, I had a big blow of fatigue linked to dehydration. That day, I exceeded my limits. visually impaired, “I only see the white of the right eye and, for the left, the visual field is affected”. The champion held the French record for 10,000 meters on the track for 20 years. Today, it is more in the transmission “of the flame of my sport” where she supervises trail runners at Cheminots Béziers.

Sébastien Wargnier (archery, Archers Narbonnais)

Sébastien Wargnier has been a member of the Narbonnais archers since September 2013 and has already taken part in three French championships in disabled archery. In 2021, during the French Handisport Championships in Daumeray, he won three gold medals in outdoor archery: one in compound archery, one at 50m on a 122cm target and one at 50 m on face 5 zones of 80 cm. He also won a gold medal in mixed. That’s not all. In 2019, he had two gold medals in the same distances and also had the bronze medal at the French indoor championships in Calais, at 18 m, for his first “France”. This year, Sébastien, who is in the process of creating his company, and who has put the sport a little behind, is slowly picking up. He has also changed his weapon and shoots a classic bow. A great champion, volunteer very involved in the life of the Narbonnais club where he is part of the board of directors. He is also the trainer for young beginners on Saturday afternoons.

Arno Vargas (armchair rugby, Handi Dragons)

At 24, Arno Vargas, an architecture and design student, struggles with sport. Despite a road accident in 2015 which deprived him of his lower limbs, the native of St-Pierre-la-Mer has concocted a fine track record. It is in wheelchair rugby that he excels with the Handi Dragons Catalans. The former hooker of Entente Fleury-Coursan and RC Narbonnais won two French championship titles as well as a national cup. This while integrating the France team with whom he hopes to play the next World Cup next November.
