Steijn started his coaching career at ADO Den Haag, first as an assistant, then as an interim and in the period from 2011 to 2014 as head coach of the club. De Hagenaar then went to work at VVV-Venlo, after which he started a foreign adventure in the United Arab Emirates in 2019.
In 2020 Steijn returned to the Netherlands and started working at NAC Breda. That season the club just missed promotion, Steijn said he was threatened by supporters and left Breda. He has been without a club ever since.
