The opening stages witnessed a fierce fight for the lead.Ott Tänak set the pace in the first stage, edging out reigning champion Kalle Rovanperä by a mere 0.4 seconds. Esapekka Lappi, making his debut with the Toyota GR Yaris Rally1, surprised everyone by topping the second stage, showcasing the car’s potential.
Though,Rovanperä quickly asserted his dominance, claiming the lead after the third stage. While Lappi, who had briefly held the top spot, slipped down the order, Rovanperä faced a new challenge from Elfyn Evans, who was hot on his heels.
Adding to the drama, the WRC2 category saw a tight battle unfold.Ole Christian Veiby initially led the charge, but a costly mistake in the final stage of the day allowed Sami Pajari to snatch the lead. The introduction of historic cars sharing the track with the WRC machines after the service park presented a unique challenge for the drivers. Rovanperä, who was among the first to encounter this situation, voiced his frustration, highlighting the difficulty of navigating the narrower track created by the slower vehicles.
Despite the challenges, the pace remained blistering. Evans emerged as the fastest in the fourth stage, while Rovanperä suffered a significant time loss. Tänak, who had climbed to second place, was forced to retire from the fifth stage due to a technical issue.
As darkness descended, Thierry Neuville took control, setting the fastest time in the sixth stage. Rovanperä,however, fought back in the final stage, securing the fastest time but losing valuable time due to tire wear.
After a day of intense competition, Neuville emerged as the leader, holding a slender 4.3-second advantage over Rovanperä.Evans, who had shown remarkable consistency, trailed in third, 7.4 seconds behind Neuville.
In the WRC2 category, Pajari held a narrow lead over Veiby, setting the stage for a thrilling battle on Saturday.

Interviewer: Rovanperä seemed to have things under control until evans started putting the pressure on. Do you think this could be a sign of a serious championship challenge from Evans this year?
Marcus: absolutely. Evans is a top-tier driver and has always been a threat to Rovanperä. This season seems to be shaping up to be a real battle between the two. Every stage will count.
Interviewer: The introduction of historic cars sharing the track, though, seemed to throw a wrench in the works for some, particularly Rovanperä.
Marcus: It definitely changes the dynamic.
Narrower tracks, slower cars. It requires a different level of patience and focus, especially amidst the pressure of a championship battle. I can understand Rovanperä’s frustration, but ultimately, it’s part of the challenge.

Interviewer: So Marcus, looking ahead to tomorrow, what do you make of the standings? Rovanperä on Neuville’s tail, Evans lurking close behind.
marcus: This is what makes the Swedish WRC so compelling!
We’ve got a three-way battle brewing, each driver with the potential to take the win. I wouldn’t be surprised to see multiple lead changes throughout the remaining stages. It’s going to be a interesting day of rallying, that’s without a doubt.
