Moderator: Gabriela, thanks for joining us.This National Qualifier is a huge possibility for young athletes. What are your thoughts on the level of competition we can expect?

Gabriela Vargas: I’m incredibly excited about this event. We’ve seen a surge in talent across Mexico, and this qualifier will undoubtedly showcase the best of the best. Jalisco, Veracruz, and CDMX have always been badminton powerhouses, but I’m notably impressed by the progress Morelos has been making.

Moderator: You mentioned Morelos. The Tlahuica team boasts a roster brimming with young talent. How do you see them performing against such seasoned competition?

Gabriela Vargas: I believe the Morelos team has a genuine shot at securing several qualifying spots. They have dedicated coaches, and players like Iktan Solórzano and Lucia Millán have shown immense potential.

Though, they’ll need to be at their sharpest. The under-13 category,in particular,is fiercely competitive, and seeding based on recent performance will create some thrilling matchups.

Moderator: Seeding decisions are always a topic of debate. Some argue it creates an uneven playing field. What’s your take on this system, especially for the younger under-11 category?

Gabriela Vargas: Seeding, in my opinion, is necessary. It ensures fairness and prevents mismatches that could demoralize young players. For the under-11s, considering past performance records, while also allowing for a draw for those new to the circuit, strikes a good balance. It’s about giving everyone a fair shot while recognizing those who have already shown promise.

Moderator: The Dominican Republic awaits the top performers. What advice would you give these young athletes as they prepare for this crucial moment in their careers?

Gabriela Vargas: It’s all about staying focused and believing in themselves. They need to trust their training, stick to their game plans, and most importantly, enjoy the experience. This is a chance to represent their country on an international stage – a dream come true for any young athlete.
