The Portuguese Joao Sousa triumphed in Pune, his first title since 2018
MADRID, 6 (EUROPA PRESS)
Kazakh tennis player Alexander Bublik defeated world number three Alexander Zverev to win the title in Montpellier (France), the first of his record, while the Portuguese Joao Sousa won the ATP tournament in Pune (India) against the Finnish Emil Ruusuvuori.
His fifth final was the definitive one for Bublik, achieving his first victory (6-4, 6-3) against a Top 5 in the world to also release his record. Zverev was surprised by his rival’s recital, which combined hard shots with quality drop shots.
Safe with his serve and playing with a lot of first serve, Bublik did not give Zverev an option who, after a discreet Australian Open, was looking for the first blow to the season and his 20th title.
Meanwhile, Sousa broke into Pune with his fourth title, but the first since 2018, in an intense final (7-6(9), 4-6, 6-1). After suffering from injuries and a lack of pace for the past two years, the Portuguese was able to slow down the young Finnish talent.
