Ostapenko currently ranks 21st in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), while her opponent is in ninth place.
In the quarterfinals, Ostapenko will have to meet the winner of the pair of Belarusian Arina Sabalenko and the Czech Petras Kvitova.
The world’s second racket, Sabalenka, is the tournament’s main favorite. The two tennis players had previously met each other twice, with the Latvian athlete winning in both.
In the first round, Ostapenko beat Sofia tennis player 6-1, 6-2 in Dubai.
In the Dubai tournament, Ostapenko is playing for the sixth time in his career. She showed the best result last year, reaching the second round.
