After the outbreak of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, the world of clay pigeon shooting and target shooting is also moving. With a statement published on the social media channels of the ISSF, President Vladimir Lisin – of Russian nationality and also president of the European Shooting Confederation – announced that the European skeet shooting and target shooting from 15 to 30 August 2022 they will be moved to Moscow.
“I’m very involved in what’s going on – Lisin wrote – and I understand that not all athletes could participate in the shooting and target shooting European Championships. I am deeply sorry about it ”.
Then he added: “The ISSF and the ESC have no right to limit the ability of athletes to participate in events that will qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.”
The gloss: “I’m sure we’ll find a solution and a location to play the event somewhere else”.
In Lisin’s words it is therefore perceived all the concern for an event which, as he himself pointed out, will be giving away some of the first qualifying cards for the Olympics.
So where could the Europeans be held? Attention, because Italy is vigilant in this sense: it is not excluded that Lonato del Garda (skeet shooting) and Bologna (target shooting) may with a joint application be the right venue to host the event.
