Today he will be with Palmeiras, current champion of the Copa Libertadores, against the winner of the Champions League. They go for the first title.

Eduard Atuesta will become this Saturday the eighth Colombian footballer to play in a Club World Cup final.

The 24-year-old Santanderean and former DIM player is part of the roster of Brazil’s Palmeiras, whose rival will be English Chelsea at the Mohammed Bin Zayed stadium in Abu Dhabi from 11:30 am (Colombian time).

Of the predecessors who achieved this honor, were champions Freddy Rincón (Corinthians 2000), Fabián Vargas (Inter de Porto Alegre 2006), Iván Ramiro Córdoba (Inter Milan 2010) and James Rodríguez (Real Madrid 2014).

Vargas, with Boca Juniors 2007, was second and leads the group of runners-up along with Wason Rentería (Santos 2011), Mario Yepes (San Lorenzo 2014) and Éder Álvarez Balanta (River Plate 2015).

Palmeiras will seek to surprise Chelsea with the aim of adding to his record his first title in this competition that began in 2000.

But after their losing final in 2012 against another Brazilian team, Corinthians, the reigning European Champions are also eagerly chasing their first World Cup title. Precisely since that edition all the world champions have been European clubs.

On Tuesday, ‘Verdão’ dominated the African champion Al-Ahly (2-0) in their semi-final. The English team could barely beat the Saudi Al Hilal by the slightest difference (1-0), which at 8:00 am will play for third place
