They no longer have a physical space to carry out their sports activity in Río Grande. They currently have around 35 stable archers, children and adults.
RIO GRANDE.- Members of the Fuegian Archery Association (AFTA) of this city, requested through a note to the mayor of this city and the provincial government, some collaboration to be able to rent a building space and resume sports activity. This entity worked in a sector of Los Ñires, and currently the Board of Directors proposed a 400 percent increase in rent.
The note, which bears the signature of AFTA representatives. Esteban Giudici and Carlos Balbo, explain that the Board of Directors of Los Ñires intends to “get us out of the way” and “was increasing the rent for the room by 400 percent, something they did not do with the other activity that takes place in the same room and, after requesting some logical explanation, the Treasurer informs us that it is better for them to rent the room for parties than to rent it for archery. Our proposal is that it is a club that, like all clubs, must have a social function and in this case through sport, but it seems that the only thing that interests us is making money”, they question.
AFTA explains what happened
The note sent by the representatives of the AFTA, to the officials of the municipality and the provincial government, indicates the following:
“AFTA was born on April 4, 2016, by the initiative of its two coaches and since that date it has been carrying out its activities in a rented room at Club Los Ñires. Currently, they have around 35 stable archers (between children from 8 years old to older adults) who compete and have represented the club and the city in different provincial events”, begins indicating the sent note.
“Our archers have occupied prominent places on the podiums of the different categories of the provincial tournaments carried out by Ushuaia clubs –he explains- One of our archers was the Argentine Champion of his specialty in a competition held in the province of Neuquén, which It indicates that we are on the right path and encourages us to continue like this”.
“We are currently concerned about the lack of a place to develop our activity -continues- the new Board of Directors of the club, argues that with the arrows we break the glass or mark the wall. The room has only two small windows as the only ventilation, which did not have glass when we took over the place and were placed and paid for by us, nor were the walls or the floor painted, and then we did it too. . Among other things to comment on, we want to say that we rented the room at the beginning of February 2016 but after two months we were able to start the activity since it was a garbage deposit, cleaning of which we took care of”.
“Whenever there was an event, we were required by the Board of Directors to attend with our goalkeepers to represent the club in: parades, signing of agreements to extend the loan of the club, fairs and any other event that served the convenience of the same, although not it belonged to us; just as they have used our name to show the activities that were developed in it”, he continues.
“We are bothered by the attitude of the Board of Directors because the way to get us out of the way was by increasing the rent of the room by 400 percent, something they did not do with the other activity that takes place in the same room and, after requesting some explanation Logically, the Treasurer informs us that it is more convenient for them to rent the hall for parties than to rent it for archery –they emphasize- Our proposal is that it is a club that, like all clubs, must have a social function in this case through sports, but It seems that the only thing that matters is making money.”
“We can only hope that he will help us in this request or that he will guide us to whom we can turn to have a space and make it possible for the archers to carry out the activity again,” the sent note ends.
