Julius Randle comes out of a good game with 28 points at 10/23, 16 rebounds and 7 assists, well helped by 22 points at 5/13 from Evan Fournier and especially Alec Burks, who scores 15 points and especially signs an excellent last act . The Knicks dominated on the rebound with 16 offensive catches and attempted 16 more shots. Opposite the Splash Brothers were not having a great day despite the 35 points and 10 assists from Stephen Curry, who shoots at 11/25 including 5/16 from long distance. As for Klay he scored 17 points, but at 7/17. Jonathan Kuminga released a very solid match with 17 points at 5/8 including 2/3 behind the arc.
The two teams did not let go during the first 3 quarters, with a maximum gap of 7 points, even if the Knicks were most of the time in the lead with a big domination on the rebound and a better outside address than the Warriors. After 3 quarters they were leading 88-82.
Immanuel Quickley and Alec Burks made a strong start to the final quarter, including 7 straight points from the latter to make the real first break of the game at 9-2, 97-84. Burks continued his strong start to the quarter, but Curry kept hope alive with help from brother-in-law Damion Lee, each shooting award-winning shots, 102-94 with 7 minutes remaining. The Warriors pulled off big defensive streaks and driven by Poole and Wiggins, the hosts came back into the game with an 11-2, 104-102 Knicks at the start of money time.
Coming out of timeout, Evan planted a big 3-point shot to calm down Chase Center. Dominating the rebound, the Knicks multiplied the additional possessions and an award-winning shot from Quentin Grimes increased the gap to 8 units. Not enough since the stifling Warriors defense still allowed stops and Curry and Kuminga reduced theirs to a single possession at the start of the last minute, 112-110. Curry had the layup for the equalizer, but the ball hesitated before coming out. On a drive Randle was blocked, but illegally by Kuminga. Curry hit his layup this time and Burks was sent down the line, but only made one of his two shots, giving the Warriors the chance to tie. Thibs didn’t allow that since the Knicks decided to foul. In the throwing game and with a miss from Cam Reddish, the Warriors had the equalizing ball, but the jump shot from Klay Thompson, alone, did not find the target.
