We now know more about the 2024 edition of the Solheim Cup. The women’s equivalent of the Ryder Cup will be held in suburban Washington in September, as announced by the LPGA on Wednesday. The Robert Trent Jones course in Gainesville (Virginia), opened in 1991, will be the scene of the 19th American-European biennial confrontation.
The first four editions of the President Cup (match between American golfers and the rest of the world except Europe) took place on this course. “It is a huge honor to have been chosen to host this prestigious event,” said club chairman George Cantrell.
The European players are holders of the title after their 15-13 success last year in Toledo, Ohio. The Americans lead 10-7 in the number of titles, but the Europeans have won the last two editions and four of the last six.
The 2023 edition of the Solheim Cup will take place on the Finca Cortesin course in Spain (Andalusia), with Stacy Lewis as American captain and Norway’s Suzann Pettersen as European team captain. The Solheim Cup switches to even years from 2024.
