From the 1st to the 6th of March, 180 athletes from all over the world will take part in the 1st International Parabadminton Competition in Vitoria-Gasteiz. It will be held at the Zabalgan Social Center and will be a scoring event for the 2022 World Championships in Japan. Along with the participants, there will be about 50 members of the technical side and about 50 other assistants in Vitoria-Gasteiz.

Specifically, the first competition in the Basque Country will bring together athletes from 35 countries on five continents, including Japan, Korea, China, Australia, Peru, Brazil and most European countries. In this way, the seven tracks of the Zabalgan social center will be adapted for the championship, and additional stands will be installed to increase the capacity to more than 150 seats. The matches will take place from 09:00 to 20:00, from the 1st to the 5th of March, and the 22 finals of each category will be played on the 6th of the month. The first athletes in the world rankings have been summoned.

Vitoria-Gasteiz City Councilor for Sports and Health Livia López, Alava Provincial Council Deputy for Culture and Sports Ana del Val, Vital Foundation Executive Director Axier Urresti, Justina Badminton Tournament Director and President Dina Abouzeid, Spanish Badminton Federation President Andoni Azurmendi and Alava Badminton Federation President Roberto Galdos have competition. Pramod Bhagat, who won the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, was also present at the presentation, along with representatives of organizations and promoters.

According to those in charge of the organization, the international tournament will allow Vitoria-Gasteiz to “take another step towards becoming a reference city” in the field of badminton and parabadminton.
