Welcome back, basketball fans! Today, we have a true legend of the game joining us – Coach Jeff Hornacek. Coach, thanks for taking the time to chat with us today!
Jeff Hornacek: My pleasure. Always happy to talk hoops.
Let’s dive right into the Hawks’ commanding win over the Raptors. Trae Young absolutely torched the Raptors for 41 points and 11 assists. What were your initial thoughts watching his performance?
Jeff Hornacek: Trae is special, no doubt about it.The kid’s got ice in his veins and a knack for taking over games.
Forty-one points and 11 assists? That’s not just scoring, that’s orchestrating an offense, finding his teammates, and creating opportunities for everyone on the court. It’s a testament to his skill and basketball IQ.
He’s already racking up 40-point games at such a young age.Only five players under 24 have more in NBA history.Do you see him cracking the top five anytime soon?
Jeff hornacek:
It’s definitely within reach. Trae’s got the talent and the drive. It wouldn’t surprise me at all, but it depends on staying healthy and having those opportunities within the flow of the game.
The hawks really dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Raptors 38-16. What changes do you think Atlanta made coming out of halftime that led to such a decisive swing in momentum?
Jeff Hornacek: It could be a few things. Maybe they tightened up their defense, started forcing turnovers, and got out in transition. Or maybe they made some adjustments offensively – finding mismatches, attacking the basket more aggressively.
irrespective, that type of third-quarter explosion shows they have the firepower to put teams away.
Let’s talk about Clint Capela. He only played 18 minutes but still managed to make a huge impact on the game. What does he bring to the Hawks that makes him so valuable?
Jeff Hornacek: Capela’s a rim protector, a rebounding machine, and a fantastic finisher around the basket. He makes life easier for his teammates defensively, cleaning up the boards and deterring opponents from attacking the paint.
Those short bursts of energy from Capela can be a real game changer.
It’s clear this Hawks team is a force to be reckoned with. Where do you see them positioned in the Eastern Conference race?
jeff Hornacek:
The Eastern Conference is incredibly competitive this year.
The Hawks have a talented roster and a luminous future. They’ve shown they can beat anyone on any given night. But consistency is key. They need to string together wins and stay healthy if they wont to be at the top of the Eastern Conference.
Thanks for your incredible insights, Coach Hornacek. we really appreciate your time and expertise.
Jeff Hornacek: My pleasure!
