Two corona cases among the basketball players from s.Oliver Würzburg

Basketball Bundesliga club s.Oliver Würzburg has two corona cases to complain about – and fears a major outbreak in the team. Coach Sasa Filipovski and player Julius Böhmer tested positive in PCR tests, according to managing director Steffen Liebler. Accordingly, the rapid PCR tests were still negative on Sunday. A quick test on a player was positive on Saturday. Filipovski and Böhmer, like the players William Buford, Alex King and Julian Albus, decided not to take part in the home game against medi bayreuth in Würzburg because they had symptoms.

Further PCR tests at s.Oliver Würzburg are pending

On Monday, a series of quick tests gave two more positive results. Here, however, the results of the PCR tests are still pending. “This will probably continue if our rapid tests don’t lie completely,” said Liebler. The fact that the Franconian derby against medi bayreuth had to be carried out despite the positive rapid test in one player and the symptoms in other players caused displeasure at both clubs.

Both clubs were in favor of relocating the game

The clubs had agreed among themselves to postpone it. However, the basketball league rejected this with reference to the rules and ordered that the game take place against the will of the clubs. Accordingly, positive PCR tests are planned on the day of the game in order to agree to a transfer. “I can understand the league to a certain extent, but I would have liked a little more flexibility in this case,” said Liebler. “The health of the players should always be the priority. That’s why I would have liked the game to be postponed,” the managing director continued.

Bayreuth’s national player Bastian Doreth had also criticized the league’s actions with a tweet.
