Remember his name: Jente Hauttekeete (19) is the new Belgian champion all-around indoor. He beat another top talent Jef Misplom. Hanne Maudens (24) triumphed among the women. In a sense, it was a debut for both: Maudens returned to the all-around after a year of 400 meters, Hauttekeete joined the big boys for the first time in Ghent.

Beforehand, Maudens expressed the ambition to qualify for the World Cup in Belgrade, but she did not come close to that. With 4,212 points, she was well below her personal best in the pentathlon, which is 4,569 points. The 60m hurdles were solid with 8.74, the high jump with 1m70 was slightly less. Shot put was up to par with 13m42, long jump was a bit disappointing with 6m10. The 800m in particular was not convincing at 2:25.00.

In the men’s category, 19-year-old Hauttekeete had hoped for more than the 5,680 points he eventually achieved and put him in eighth place in the Belgian all-time ranking. The 60m was good with 7.06, long jump solid with 7m16. Shot put was a big disappointment with 13m66, high jump with 2m02 was not entirely convincing either. In the 60m hurdles Hauttekeete managed a personal best of 8.29, pole vault was also fine with 4m60. The 1,000m was a bit disappointing with 2:52.74.
