UD Ibiza-Pitiús defeats the leader in sa Blanca Dona and catches oxygen

The UD Ibiza-CB Pitiús yesterday gave a fist to the table after defeating the leader of group B of the Division of Honour, San Fernando de Valencia, by a tight 4-3 thanks to a last point obtained by the young youth squad player Carlos Iglesias.

The sky-blue team took courage and put all their efforts into the track of sa Blanca Dona to get the victory against a rival that had only conceded one defeat in the previous six days. Ernesto García’s men overcame a very adverse season, marked by covid and absences, to get their second victory and get some oxygen in the standings, although they are still in relegation positions.

UD Ibiza laid the foundations for the hard-fought victory in the first two games, which were won by Marc Cardona and Laia Oset, and by Paula López and Laia Oset in the mixed doubles (11-10, 11-6 and 11-7) and the doubles female (11-9, 11-6 and 11-6), respectively.

Alejandro Alcalá and Fran Olivares closed the gap after beating Ricardo Rettig and Vicente Martínez in the men’s doubles (5-11, 9-11, 11-4 and 5-11).

Paula López made it 3-1 against Andrea Arrones (8-11, 11-9, 11-8 and 11-6), but Alcalá and Silvia Ferrandis leveled the match before the final game after beating Marc Cardona in the individual duels and Paula Keychain.

Then the figure of Carlos Iglesias emerged in a match of maximum equality and emotion. The Ibizan ended up beating Arturo Hernández in five sets by 11-10, 11-10, 7-11, 6-11 and 11-9. An agonizing but brilliant end to the Pitius Badminton Club.
