There is no longer any doubt: Zion Williamson’s rating continues to fall in New Orleans. A decline in popularity which was further reflected during a recent local parade, during which he was violently disrespected!
The story seemed to start on such good bases. Drafted as a generational prospect by the Pelicans upon leaving Duke, Zion Williamson landed in a franchise that was beginning its reconstruction. Following the departure of Anthony Davis, the keys to the truck were immediately given to him on the spot, which testified to the confidence placed in him by his leaders. Today, the latter seems to have completely evaporated!
Three years after his arrival, the young star inside even begins to strongly annoy superiors and fans, whether for his incessant absences or for his behavior. His latest escapade with a star rookie certainly did not allow him to regain points, and to best prepare for his return from injury. It is therefore a toxic climate that now reigns around him in New Orleans, and that is an understatement!
Badly caricatured Zion in a parade in New Orleans
Zion’s situation at the Pels is such that a good part of the franchise’s fanbase is now only waiting for one thing: to see him leave the Bayou! A nice symbol of this growing disenchantment has notably been seen on the sidelines of the Mardi Gras festivities, so popular in Louisiana. A parade float has indeed transmitted a very unflattering image of the golgoth!

Represented as bloated as possible and with a splint on his left foot, Williamson is seen here leaning against a stack of banknotes, taken from his big contract signed last summer. He also holds a sandwich in his right hand, while declaring “to be hungry”. Finally, his favorite number 1 is found accompanied by the mention “tonne” on his jersey, which illustrates his weight problems since his arrival in the league!
As you will have understood, this caricature is in no way intended to flatter the former Dukie, any more than the Pelicans as a whole. The latter would thus find themselves in a period of “relapse”, as the name of this tank suggests, because of their controversial choices in recent years. A criticism in which obviously fits the signing at a gold price of Zion during the last off-season!
Decidedly, the anti-Zion Williamson sling wants to be more and more marked in New Orleans. This new mark of disrespect towards the young big man could well hasten his departure a little more, which would obviously not displease these fans!
