SM Unicaja Banco Adba Avilés enjoyed a great weekend in the Women’s First National, achieving two very important wins in their aspirations to fight for promotion in the second phase. The Avilesian team beat Patatas Hijolusa de León on Friday (56-51), a match postponed, and Seis do Nadal de Coia on Saturday (61-43), both at El Quirinal.
On Friday, Carlos Galán’s team had to shoot straight, with all the home players except Clara García, again with Ángela Engonga at the helm of the attack (21 points). Already on Saturday the signing Benedicta Ummah could come into play, who gave an exhibition under the board going up to 31 points. A splendid individual performance that places Adba with 12 wins and 8 losses in the table, very close to the illusion of finishing among the eight best teams in the group and being able to look towards the fight for promotion to League 2, now third national category.
In the lower zone, and with nothing more at stake than honor, since this season there will be no relegation, La Biblioteca Innobasket and Alecar Skoda Atlética were defeated in two games in which they were absent. Innobasket lost in the Asturian derby against Fodeba (49-58) with seven players, and Skoda fought as hard as they could in Vigo (81-56) with eight.
