Versailles, Tom Thumb who dreams big

Very ambitious, the amateur club sees further than the semi-final of the Coupe de France against Nice on Tuesday.

On the large Plexiglas windows of the old Montbauron stadium, where the Versaillese prepared for their semi-final against Nice (9 p.m. on Eurosport), large Coupe de France stickers and posters recall the royal epic of the amateur club this season in the “Doyenne”. The image is a bit misleading because, as against Toulouse (Ligue 2), discarded in 8is final, the Football Club of Versailles will not welcome the Aiglons in its enclosure planted in the heart of the city. Already forced to play on the TFC pitch, the National 2 club (4e division) will therefore still face “at home” but 934 km away the third in Ligue 1. The Montbauron stadium and its 7,545 seats, inaugurated in 1961, is unfortunately not approved by the French Football Federation, in particular due to an unusual lighting problem. The presence of the Palace of Versailles nearby and heritage protection standards prevent the construction of masts that risk disfiguring the landscape……
