It took place this morning, in Vittoria, the commemoration ceremony for Giovanni Palatucci, former Quaestor of Fiume, who died on 10 February 1945 in the Nazi concentration camp of Dachau, awarded the Gold Medal for Civil Merit for having saved thousands of foreign and Italian Jews from the genocide

The commemorative ceremony, launched for the first time last year and promoted by the State Police in collaboration with the Extraordinary Commission of the Municipality of Vittoria and the participation of some students of the San Biagio Comprehensive Institute, took place in the central Piazza Vittoria Colonna. , in front of the Town Hall, where an olive tree donated by the Municipality of Vittoria was planted a year ago, in undying memory and affixed to the plaque in memory of the sacrifice of Giovanni Palatucci, recognized as “Righteous among the Nations”.

The ceremony, organized on the anniversary of the death of the young Quaestor, was promoted again this year by the Municipal Administration of Vittoria, in agreement with the Ragusa Police Headquarters, in compliance with the provisions in force concerning the containment of the infection and criteria for the protection of citizens and staff employed, in relation to the epidemiological spread from Covid-19.
